Cristina Schek is the photosensitive kind, a London-based Transylvanian Surrealist Digitalist whose conceptual work and self-portraits explore identity, perception and the subconscious through a rich blend of literature, cinema and art history. A linguist with a visual imagination, she approaches images like language itself: layered with nuance and rich with undertones. Entirely self-taught, Cristina uses digital montage and manipulation to craft whimsical, thought-provoking compositions inspired by the Surrealists and Old Masters, yet filtered through a lens distinctly her own. Her practice explores refracted realities, memory and the ghostlight of the digital age.

Her work has been exhibited internationally at major art fairs and in museum shows at Elmbridge and Kingston in London. She has received critical recognition, winning First Prize in the 2025 Young Masters People’s Choice Award and being Highly Commended for the Rudolph Blume Foundation Acquisition Award. She was also the winner of the 2023 W4th Plinth Public Art Project with ‘The Ceiling in the Sky’, a monumental 4 × 4 m outdoor work curated by Abundance London and unveiled by Dame Siân Phillips, in the footsteps of Sir Peter Blake, whose collage of music hall entertainers inaugurated the project.
